Green Event Solutions: Farm-to-Table Chic

Green Event Inspiration: Farm-to-Table Chic
To my utter delight, the farm-to-table movement that swept across American dining, is making its way into the wedding and event world!  I am in love with the idea of local, fresh foods being served at events.  Let’s say goodbye to stuffy conference rooms with mediocre fare and make our way to the countryside to work with local farmers serving fresh, seasonal produce.  Offer your guests and experience to remember, while being Eco-friendly and supporting local businesses.  Of course, you will want the rest of your event to match the simple elegance of your meal. Here are few tips on how to create an entire farm-to-table event that is over the top fabulous!

Hire a catering company that specializes in farm-to-table options.  If you don’t want to hire a full on caterer, go around to local restaurants, farmers markets, and chefs to find out who is available in your town to cook for your event.  I think you will be surprised how many options there are!
*Be seasonal!  When choosing your menu, pick items that are in
season to keep down on cost and your carbon foot print.
Work with your caterer or chef to come up with unique to you foods
         that will wow your guests.
*Go the extra mile and have your servers/caterer save food
scrapes for composting and recycle all other items.

If you can, hold your event at the farm producing your food!  If you are lucky they may have a beautiful barn on site you can decorate to your liking.  If a farm is not an option, find a beautiful outdoor venue that will accommodate your desires and offer natural beauty.   Consider a natural chic style that incorporates reused items, DIY decor, local organic flowers, potted plants/herbs, and just about anything local!
